Yesterday I finally got all the Winter Wonderland stitcheries sewn together - the Snow People are finally united! I know this isn't a very good picture, it's cloudy and snowing off and on again today and it is lying on top of our down comforter. I've also not yet taken out the basting stitches - that will happen after I put the borders on and fly stitch the seams. I hope to get the borders on this afternoon.
Mr. Squash and I were awakened early this morning by the sound of many sirens. When I peeked out the curtains and saw an empty city bus drive down our street (buses are not normally allowed on our street), we knew something was wrong. We stepped out onto one of our decks and saw a lot of smoke just down the street behind us. So we put on warm clothes and walked down to see what happened. An older apartment building was ablaze and there were many fire trucks and police cars. The city bus is used to help keep victims of the fire warm and safe until all is sorted. Thankfully no one was injured and everyone got out safely, but the building is old and a total loss. We felt bad and I wish I had enough quilts to hand out to folks. This is something I'll keep in mind in years to come. One can never have too many quilts to give to people in need.
