What Is It Contest and Giveaway!

I made it back safe and sound from my overnight quick-trip to the Squash House! It got a little dicey over the pass coming back - lots of snow - but I made it just fine! The next trip over will be with our little cat, Sophie, and it will be home sweet home!

To celebrate our impending move, I thought a contest and giveaway was in order! Everyone loves the new Moda line from the French General - Rouenneries! This charm pack and jelly roll is from the new quilt shop, Stash, near the Squash House!

In order to be eligible to win these great items (and you know me - that's not all that will be included) you just have to guess what the thinga-ma-jig is below! Here's a hint: it goes in one room of our house that is totally devoted to fly fishing. I found it recently at a local gift shop and just had to have it! Don't worry - after the contest ends, I will show it to you in it's proper spot!

Here is a close-up of the trout portion - all hand made in pewter! Please remember when leaving your guess that I must have a way of contacting you should you win! If you are commenting anonymously or as "noreply-comment", please leave me your email address otherwise you will NOT be entered in the drawing. You won't get extra chances by following or posting this on your blog - just leave one comment here - I'll enter all comments - correct guess or not! Contest ends this Thursday, November 12th at 5:00 p.m! Hey - if you win - you won't be able to say Friday the 13th is unlucky!!

I'll leave you today with a photo of the kitchen table we decided to get for the Squash House. This one was a much better fit than the rectangular table I showed you here. We picked it up this weekend so this photo was taken as it sits in our garage! I just love the quarter-sawn oak and I found chairs at Pottery Barn that are a perfect match!

Great giveaway!

I'm going to guess that the fish thing is something that you run threads/filaments through so they stay taut and remain untangled.

I know absolutely nothing about fishing so I am going to guess a book mark.

Don't laugh if this is wrong....but it looks very familiar to a toilet flush handle. By chance is their a toilet in the fish room?

Ellen said...

Congrats on the new house! I think it is the curtain holder (you know, the thing that screws into the wall and you hook the curtain around . . . my coworkers call it a tie-back). I'm not sure of the exact word, but I hope you understand! Thanks for the give-away!

Glad to get updates on your move activities and know that it is progressing well.

Fun giveaway. Oh how I love Moda fabrics and scrap fabrics. But I doubht I'll be able to guess what this beautiful piece of pewter is. Possibly a sinker or a weight lure, but I don't think you use weights in fly fishing. I also think it would make a beautiful necklace, tietack, button or charm. Even a cute zipper pull!

Is it part of a decorative light fixture??? I can see that it goes perfectly in you fly fishing room!

Cindy said...

LOL, love a challenge.
I was going to guess a putter for golf but I think I tend to agree with Mary at Quilt Hollow - a handle for flushing the "john".

Just don't flush anything else...LOL

Linda said...

Candace I have no ida what your fishy item is. The holes on the end are just stumping me. Snow already, lucky you.

Kat said...

I think it's some kind of hanger. Maybe you hang two of them up side by side so you can lay fishing poles across them. The long flat part attaches to the wall and the bent trout part holds them on.

Wendy P said...

The closest I've been to fly fishing is watching "A River Runs Through It" (ahhh, Brad Pitt...) but I am going to guess this gadget helps put line on the reels.

Louise said...

Looks like a book marker to me.

BillieSews said...

Looks like it might be a decorative addition to a chain pull like you see on ceiling fans.

Janet said...

Could it be a toilet flush handle?? It is a very interesting contest and the prize...sigh - is marvelous!

Boy, I don't have a clue although the opposite end of the fish looks curiously familiar. Love your little kitchen table. I always prefer round tables as well.

what a great giveaway - i love that fabric!

i am guessing shelf bracket? it's a toughie!

congrats on getting closer and closer to your home sweet home! ☺

Sherrill said...

I also think it's a curtain tie-back/hold back thingy. My only guess! Thanks for the giveaway..I DO love that line of fab!!

bingo~bonnie said...

I'm really going out on a limb here... but I'm thinking it could be a part for the toilet?? and that the fish part that screws on will be on the outside and the arm thing goes in the tank to connect to the flusher thingy?

That is the only thing I can think of that would explain why there are screw holes on the far right...?

Thanks for sharing some Market MODA with all of us! Someone is gonna get lucky! ;)

Love from Texas! ~bonnie

Hubby and I both think it is the handle to flush a toilet. Pretty fancy one at that.

Curtain rod

What a fun giveaway!!

CJ said...

How about one of the hands of a clock?? Really just making stuff up here. :D

Kim said...

You'll be using this to flush your toilet! But the bookmark idea is a good one, too.

Kathleen said...

I'm guessing your dedicated room to fly fishing is the bathroom & that is a new handle for your toilet. Can't wait to find out what it is.

Kigwit said...

Is is the flush handle for the toilet? (I'm kinda embarrassed to guess that!)

craftykaren said...

I can think of hundreds of patterns I would use the beautiful fabric . Really love it. My guess is the harp on a lamp.

Bonnie said...

What an imaginative give away!It is a very cute little fishy! My guess is a pull for a ceiling fan.

Happy quilting!
Bonnie

Is it the pendulum to a clock?

I love your new table!

Carrie ~ Cricketwood Prims said...

Now this little gadget looks like a handle for something, but again it could be something you use for making leaders, not sure if you do that for fly fishing, I'm going to cheat and have my sweetie take a look. TeeHee! Wonderful giveaway, just love the fabric.
Oh! love the table too, round is perfect for smaller areas.

Melanie said...

Hia Candace the table is gorgeous. My guess with the fish is that it is a handle to wind the line round with and the other end screws to something to keep it from moving as you wind.

LyndaG said...

I have enjoyed following your adventure. I love your choice of fabric ... As far as the fish, the workmanship looks quite fine...so I'm guessing it is not something that your take fishing. I like the curtain tie-back idea, but can't tell if it sticks out far enough from the wall... so, if fish related, perhaps a rod to hold the flies while tied???

LydaBabes Going Ons!!!! said...

I know I know it is your flusher handle for your toilet....how clever. Where did you ever find something like that....cute....

This is a toilet handle!! Hope I am right, think I am!

Marj said...

My guess is it looks like a very fancy toilet flush handle.
Love, love, love, your new round table. Hope that we get to see it in it's new home with the chairs you described.

Looks like a toilet handle to me (having replaced one last year).

HRH Gigi said...

What a great toilet handle! How cute. And nice giveaway as well. Thanks for sharing.

Enjoy the new home.

swirlc said...

I thought I was so clever to guess that it was the handle for flushing the toilet, guess others had the same great idea. I have a bathroom decorated with an outhouse theme so a fly fishing bathroom sounds perfect for the Squash House! I know you are having fun finding special things to decorate with.

I love that line of fabric :o)
I think it's used to hold the door open.....

DianeH said...

Just to be different I'm going to say it has something to do with tieing flies. Glad our guesses don't have to be right. Thanks for throwing my name in. Love the table.

Carol in Rock Hill, SC said...

I think it is the rod to the window shades. You turn it to close and open the shade. Hope so....I love that fabric!!

Little Miss Shabby said...

Well, I figured my 4 year old daughter's guess was as good as mine. After looking at it for quite some time, she has deduced that it must be a toothpick.

Awesome, awesome giveaway! Thanks so much for a chance to win.

Carrie P. said...

One room devoted to fly fishing, well that reminds me of my sister's house. Her family fishes too but not fly and she has a bathroom that is decorated in fish stuff. So I am guessing that this thing goes in the bathroom. It looks like the handle for a toilet. I thought maybe a hook but nothing would really stay on it very good. Very interesting for sure. Making us think for sure.

Lisa D. said...

You find the coolest things! I'm going to guess it's a towel bar.

Rosa Robichaud said...

YES!!! I KNEW I had seen the end part of that fishy thingy!!!

I'm POSITIVE it's the toilet flusher handle... and the long "stick" part goes inside the toilet tank, for the black ball floater thing-ah-mah-jig!

*VBG*

Did I describe it properly?!??!

LOL

For me it looks like a handle to open windows (don't know what you call it in English).

Super giveaway - thankyou for the opportunity!

Oh darn! I thought I would be the first one to say that it looks like a toilet handle. Cute!

I love French General! I'm going to go look up that line of fabric even though I have my fingers crossed to WIN! My guess, some part of a sink. I'm very curious to find out!

susan said...

Great giveaway - I, too love this fabric line. I'm going to guess that its a handle used to flush a toilet. (we just had to change ours and the end looked a lot like this one).

Oh dear if my GS wasn't in bed I'd ask him ... he's crazy about fishing of all kinds. So I'm going to guess you thread fish on it after catching.

I've been reading about French General - Rouenneries everywhere ... oh my they are so pretty. thanks.

Kaye Prince said...

Ya, I definitely think it's a flusher handle too!

I could definitely use me some Moda!

Carol said...

I think it's the toilet flush handle. My dad loved to fly fish and would have thought that was the ultimate gadget!

Jane's Fabrics and Quilts said...

I have looked and looked and made the picture bigger, and looked and I agree ,the handle of the toliet!
But I cannot wait to see where it belongs. your dream is coming true, and I am so happy for both of you!
Thank you for this fun giveaway!

Okay I am back....just had my dear husband look at it and right away he said the same as most on this list thought ...the flusher handle that goes in the facility! That is one cool trout on the end of it..

Mary on Lake Pulaski said...

Those three different holes in the metal part are very distinct and have to be the handle for the toilet in the fly fishing room at Squash House.
I love French General - Rouenneries!

I am sure it is the toilet flush handle. That is very clever. Did hubby install it or did you?

Wish me luck I would love to win this fabric. This is a great line from Moda!

welcome to the "other side" lol!! and in honor of my living the closest to you, perhaps I should get an extra entry or something!! (hey, it's worth a try) I'm thinking that your do-hickey is a curtain tieback...b/c I know you wouldn't use it as a weight and losing that handmade trout in stream...
~Andrea

AnnieO said...

I think it is an attachment for a fly fishing rod that keeps the hooks weighted down so they don't catch on anything as they are stored. It's a great looking fish!

Mel said...

My guess is that it is a candle snuffer.

I'm so excited that you are almost 100% moved in!!

IHaveANotion ~ Kelly Jackson said...

I am a huge fish lover. I would have had to buy that too. I'm guessing it is a handle for the toilet. But I would love it as a handle on the sink or tub too. It would be really cool if it were a toilet paper dispenser.

I don't eat fish at all....but love fish decorations.

Smiles,
Kelly

Really love that table! Gorgeous.
I have to agree with several others, it's a toilet flush handle. It's been fun to read the answers.

Jules @ MoonCat Farms said...

Thank you for the fun contest. I am in agreement about the thingy being a thingy for the toilet handle (I went & looked at ours).

Lots of fun!

Sue Cahill said...

Looks like a toliet handle to me too! If it is my bathroom is too boring.

It has been fun reading through all the suggestions. I think you will hang something on this, after it has been fastened through the holes on a side of a shelf. The trout is just a decoration, but the white parts must be needed for something. Mr. K was of no help here, but he remembers having seen holes like that!!

Sipiweske Quilts said...

I'm going to go with toilet flushing thingy - that end with the three holes in it really looks familiar! What a unique flusher. Great giveaway and here's hoping I can add it to my stash. - Marlene

Nanette Merrill and daughters said...

I have no idea. I have to confess I was reading comments to see what others guessed. But My first thought when I looked at it was that it attached to SOMETHING! I thought it was to hang something. But I don't know what. Fun stumper! That fabric is lovely.

Kate/Massachusetts said...

I have no idea but would guess it is some sort of decoration! Maybe it sits on a bookcase with a fisherman statue holding a rod and trout? Am I "channeling" Squash House correctly! lol

The fabrics are great! Love them. The fish thingy is cute and I'm laughing at all the toilet handle guesses but it really does look like the flush lever. Someone was really clever to guess that. I'll have to agree.

I love this fabric and would love to win so I waited until my maintanence man husband came home after steelhead fishing and he said for sure its a toilet flush handle. I hope he's right!!

Happy Cottage Quilter said...

I am clueless too, but everyone seems to think it is a handle for the toilet, so I'm adding my name to that guess :-)

Alice I. said...

Since everyone has guess toilet handle, I'll by different. How about a weight or pendulum for a clock? Can't wait to find out what the thingamajig is! Great giveaway, by the way!

Debbie said...

It's the arm for the float inside the toilet tank. The fish goes on the outside.

Those Moda fabrics are beautiful!

It sure looks like a toilet flush handle and the lift rod that's inside the tank. Very cool!
